RYS2025 is the 1st edition of the biennial RILEM Youth Symposium, organized by the RILEM Youth Council, focusing on building materials and construction.
This dynamic event is tailored for emerging researchers, PhD students, and professionals in the early stages of their careers. The target audience includes individuals under 35 years of age and those enrolled in a university degree program (Master's or Ph.D.), regardless of age.
The symposium covers a diverse range of topics, including the processing, characterisation, and advanced manufacturing of building materials; deterioration and durability; structural performance; and the environmental impact evaluations. The symposium encompasses both conventional and non-conventional building materials. These include concrete and cementitious materials, masonry, timber, bio- and earth-based composites, bamboo, polymers and innovative low-carbon materials applied in construction. All topics related to the themes of RILEM Technical Committees are also included.
This symposium offers a unique opportunity for early-career researchers to showcase their work. It provides a chance to connect with peers worldwide, interact with senior RILEM members who are world-wide renowned experts, and gain recognition for your work through the Best Paper Award, the Best Presentation Award, and the Best Poster Award.
To maximize reach and impact, the symposium will be held fully online, registration and participation are free of charge, but RILEM membership is required to submit a contribution*. Participation as an audience member is free, but online registration is required (registration link will be shared at a later stage). Representation from all the RILEM regions is strongly encouraged.
The time chosen to facilitate worldwide participation is 12:00 - 15:00 UTC, on the 20th and 21st of October 2025.
All accepted full papers will be published in Springer Nature proceedings (Scopus-indexed and EiCompendex-indexed), including those that for a matter of restricted time, will not be given the possibility to present online during the event. All accepted extended abstracts and posters will be shared online on the symposium website for audience engagement and questions.
The scientific committee will identify highly relevant research from full papers and extended abstracts. Those selected will be invited to present their work online during the symposium. Everyone who submitted a contribution is strongly encouraged to participate in the online symposium and the Q&A sessions following the presentations.
